How to Recover Accidentally Deleted Outlook Express Addresses

How to Recover Accidentally Deleted Outlook Express Addresses

When you accidentally delete all your Outlook Express contacts, you might fly into a panic. Since Outlook Express email is based on your computer, recovering lost addresses is easier than it would be with web-based email. While the addresses appear to be gone, they still exist on your computer. Restoring the contacts requires you to open the registry window and manipulate your computer’s registry. Recovering your Outlook Express email requires working with Outlook. Since these programs sync, restoring them in Outlook restores them in Outlook Express.
1 – Click the “Start” menu and select “Run.” Type “regedit” in the text box and press “OK.”
2 – Find the following registry key in the registry window:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options
3 – Click “Add Value” in the “Edit” menu. Add the following information to the registry window:
Value name: DumpsterAlwaysOn
Data type: DWORD
Value data: 1
Close the registry window when you’re finished.
4 – Press the “Deleted Item Recovery” link in the “Tools” window. This opens a list of recently deleted files.
5 – Right-click the address you want to recover. Select “Recover deleted item.” This places the contact back in your address book.
